This is a really memorable old Sesame Street segment for me, but check the music and sound! Love the use of analog synthesizers to take us through the three distinct phases of the narrative. Trippy journey into nature -> masked beekeeper smokes out the alien bee’s nest -> celebratory, yet slightly deranged honey eating fanfare.

Records were melted and sculpted to form a cascading wave, dotted with bursts of colorful labels. The resulting structure speaks to the inevitable waves of technology that render each successive generation of recordable media obsolete. The piece also aims to physically manifest the ephemerality of music as well as one man’s musical tastes, as represented by his personal record collection.

The wood options in the scraps were slim and I haven’t been trained to use the table saw yet so when I found this little piece, I decided to try to work with the grid of holes in it. Its a neat effect, but I misaligned it just slightly.

The vocal harmonies on this track are seriously straight out of Pink Floyd’s Echoes (or maybe other Wright/Gilmore pairings) and then this vocoder singalong thing happens and its just generally pretty great.

I made this with a laser cutter yesterday. This was more of a test of different combinations of settings of power and speed on the laser cutter to see what would work best with the kind of forms I’m engraving. Hopefully I’ll find a time to do some more later this week.

Nice use of Delaunay triangulation. Something about the way the colors are chosen for the triangles in some of the examples on the linked page almost feel like really low-res ambient occlusion rendering.

Hypnosis - End Title (Blade Runner)

Replicants jack to this. Anonymous friend Noah dug this up on vinyl somewhere over the weekend and played it for me last night and now here I am coming up for air after a very thorough Internet search mission. I found it.

FANTASMI MACCHINA, the blog I found it on, has a rapidshare link to several Hypnosis records and a TON of other really hard to find and out of print music. I’m gonna have to spend some time there digging through all the goodies.
