The World Series of ‘Tubing is back for a very special Performa event tomorrow. We’re sharing the bill with JODI.org, which is cool. This is a picture of our stage setup… I think its looking pretty awesome!

Sound Wave, 2007
Jean Shin
Records were melted and sculpted to form a cascading wave, dotted with bursts of colorful labels. The resulting structure speaks to the inevitable waves of technology that render each successive generation of recordable media obsolete. The piece also aims to physically manifest the ephemerality of music as well as one man’s musical tastes, as represented by his personal record collection.

You can help support the development of Processing and look good while doing it with the newly-opened Processing.org Shop! Two t-shirts are available. One shirt called “Beauty” features the same Casey Reas piece that is on the cover of the official Processing book as well as the header of the Processing website. The other shirt, “Beast”, features an image of the much-loved Processing editor with the code used to create the “Beauty” shirt. Excellent.

If I understand correctly, all the visuals were generated with a Rutt-Etra video synthesizer. The sound is from custom software and its crazy.

Whoa!

If I’m reading the description on the clip page correctly, the source video was generated in the 1970s. ANALOG FOREVER!

The wood options in the scraps were slim and I haven’t been trained to use the table saw yet so when I found this little piece, I decided to try to work with the grid of holes in it. Its a neat effect, but I misaligned it just slightly.

Bibio - Bones & Skulls

The vocal harmonies on this track are seriously straight out of Pink Floyd’s Echoes (or maybe other Wright/Gilmore pairings) and then this vocoder singalong thing happens and its just generally pretty great.
